Buyer workflow

Building a collection technology shortlist before the demo

By Kai Greenspan, Founding Editor

A source-led workflow for turning an operating need into a technology evaluation that can withstand procurement, security, and compliance scrutiny.

A useful shortlist starts before vendor outreach. Define the workflow change, who owns the decision, what data crosses system boundaries, and the operational controls that must remain visible.

Separate the questions that determine fit from the questions that determine commercial terms. Product research can narrow the field; implementation scope, configuration, security, legal obligations, and pricing require confirmation in the buyer-vendor process.

Treat every public capability statement as an evidence cue rather than proof. Capture the source date, map each item to an internal requirement, and write the open question you will take into a qualified information request.
